Description of Tulle Veiling Swatch Cards

This listing is for Veil Fabric qualities.
please purchase if you would like to see all the tulle swatches available before purchasing a veil.

You will receive up to 4 swatches per card of available tulle & netting for all of our veils.

For styles that are embellished, we will also send you some of the lace, crystals or pearls for quality

How To Match the Tulle/Netting Colour to Your Gown

We will send you a fairly large stack of each colour for your review (about 10-15 layers). Take the swatches off the card, 3-4 layers per colour for a Gathered Comb Veil and 1-2 Layers for a Single Layer Non Gathered Comb Veil and hold it against your gown‎ in natural day light (not direct sunlight) to see the true colour of your gown and the tulle. For Juliet Cap Veils, Draped Veils etc use 3-4 layers to get the true colour against your gown.

If your gown glows a blueish bright white tone in daylight then choose the pure white. If it's white, but softer and doesn't shine blue, chose off white, if it is warmer and a tinge creamy and yellow in tone then go with the Ivory. The ivory looks quite yellow when seen as a stack, but that is about 10-15 layers of fabric so it's much more concentrated then when paired and worn with a gown.

Rule of Thumb of colour standards based on Designer Dress Colour Names

  • Pure White, Bright White, Stark White, Brilliant White, Optic White - Your Veil should be WHITE
  • Pearl, Alabaster, Diamond White, Soft White - Your Veil should be OFF WHITE
  • Cream, True Ivory, Dark Ivory, Ecru - Your Veil should be IVORY

**Please note that due to the natural dying process of fabrics, your swatch fabric might have slight variances in shade to your veil fabric. This is beyond our control and industry tolerance is 10% variance**

Tulle and Net types:

English Tulle: English Tulle is the standard quality of tulle that we use in our bridal studio. Approximately 85% of our veils use this beautiful tulle.
English Tulle is woven on centuries old tulle looms in England and is a similar style of tulle to Silk Tulle, which is what we love about it! It has a hexagon shape and a slightly crisp hand that softens up with wear and light steaming. It is a slightly denser tulle than standard Bridal Illusion Tulle but is still sheer and has a matte finish, beautiful drape and a high quality appeal, it is also stronger, holds the weight of crystals & pearls well (if embellished) and doesn't tear like Illusion tulle.

Whisper Tulle:  Whisper Tulle is a beautiful new tulle that we are so excited to offer in our Bridal Studio. This beautiful tulle is similar to Bridal Illusion tulle, however it is soft and drapes like butter!  It has a diamond shape to the woven pattern and is our sheerest tulle available. It literally looks like a whipser as it is a barely there style of veil. It has a slight shimmer to it that catches in the light, but is still fairly matte and modern. It is very delicate and should be handled with care when worn. This is the perfect tulle for those windswept moments.

French Tulle: French Tulle is a super sheer, soft and drapey tulle that is knit in Italy. It is similar to our English Tulle in that it is a hexagon shape, but while it still has body to it, it drapes like butter (as we like to say). French Tulle is a NARROW knit tulle and only allows us to create veils up to 56" wide (unless we cut it on the horizontal and we can make it 72" wide in the case of our 54" style shown on our model) It is a very sheer tulle and has a slight shimmer to it, beautiful drape and a high quality appeal, it is also stronger, holds the weight of crystals & pearls well (if embellished) and doesn't tear like Illusion tulle.

English Netting: English net is knit in England on centuries old knitting looms. It is a beautiful knitted tulle that is a bit more dense then our Irish net as it has a smaller hexagon knit then our Irish net. It drapes beautifully and hugs the body to provide a gorgeous fine art bridal look. It has a bit of natural stretch to is so it allows for us to create a beautiful cap shape that fits around the head. It is less delicate then our Irish net and can be steamed to easily remove wrinkles. It truly is a dreamy fabric, and new to our collections! We can't wait to create more beautiful veils with it!

    • Joni Juliet Veil

Irish Net: Irish Net is the standard quality of netting that we use in our bridal studio. All of our drapey fine art style veils are made using this netting. This netting is NARROW and the widest width we can cut is a 56" wide veil.
Irish netting is woven on centuries old tulle looms in England and is a similar style of tulle to drapey Silk Tulle, which is what we love about it! It has a hexagon shape and is buttery soft. It hugs the body and creates that beautiful fine art look, but is still light enough that it doesn't feel heavy. It is a slightly denser netting but more sheer than standard English Net and has a matte finish, beautiful drape and a high quality appeal. It is highly delicate however so we do not recommend this style of netting on dresses that has rhinestone beading (With the clasp prongs) as it can easily get caught on the prongs. It should be handled with care.

Please note that as this fabric is knit on vintage machines, small variations in the knit can/will occur. These variations are a natural characteristic of the fabric and adds to the beauty of handmade.
